Rock Candle Filling instructions
Remove the wick and copper holder from the rock. Place funnel inside hole. Fill the funnel with oil and allow it to drain into the reservoir. Replace the wick by twisting it down into the reservoir. Hold the wick with some of it sticking out from your fingers� and then twist it in as soon as the wick touches the stone. Twisting is the only way� the stuff method does not work here! Fill up the funnel once to allow the candle to burn for about one hour. Two funnels will allow the candle to burn for two hours. Three funnels (three hours) is the maximum recommended fill.
Burning Your Vermont Rock Candle
The design of this oil lamp is to burn the amount of oil in the reservoir. Un-consumed oil that remains in the reservoir after a burning will tend to slowly wick up onto the stone through the wick. Although any oil that wicks up will evaporate away as the stone warms up with no damage to the stone, we recommend you let your candle burn until extinction. It helps if you just pour in the amount of oil that you intend to use at a sitting. The height of the candle flame can be adjusted by allowing more or less of the wick to protrude out of the copper piece. The copper piece is the �wick holder�. If more of the wick sticks out, the flame will burn higher. A higher flame is best for outdoor burning as it will not blow out easily from the wind. For indoor burning, it�s better if you set up a smaller wick which will provide you with a virtually smoke free flame. As with all open flames, do not leave your home with the candle alight.
Your Wick
The wick is fiberglass and will not burn away. It will never need to be replaced or trimmed.
Lamp Oil Recommendation
Although most lamp oil will burn just fine in your candle, we strongly recommend Lamplight 99% Ultra-Pure lamp oil. The oil is 99% pure liquid paraffin, and it can be found in almost any hardware store. It is rated as smokeless and odorless and it burns beautifully. Note that Lamplight produces Ultra-Pure in both "99% pure" and �Less Than Pure� lamp oil. Buy the 99% pure to enjoy your virtually smoke free Vermont Rock Candle.
